Sustainability Committee

The Sustainability Committee is responsible for coordinating Student Assembly policy as it relates to environmental sustainability. The sustainability committee directly tackles issues relating to resource usage, carbon footprint, and waste production by connecting with campuses, assessing their needs, and trying to provide resources and resolutions to address the most pressing issues.

THOMAS LEONARD 

Chair

Thomas is a Math and Science major in the Honors Program at Rockland County Community College with an interest in studying Political Science and Public Policy as a transfer student. Thomas grew up in Rockland County and graduated from North Rockland High School in 2018. He began in student leadership as a member of the Student Government Association and the Student Activities Board at Rockland Community College. Thomas is now serving as the Student representative to the Board of Trustees where he has been a champion for the students of RCC. Thomas's interests in sustainability developed from his studies on mobilized mercury at Clarkson University over the summer of 2019. As chair, he is focusing on approaching sustainability more holistically, advocating for not only environmental sustainability, but economic and social sustainability.

ANDRIANA LAMENDOLA

Vice Chair

Andriana LaMendola is a double major in Public Policy and Management with a concentration in Environmental Science, and Communications, at the University at Albany. She serves as an Energy Analyst with the Office of Energy Management at UAlbany,  Environmental Supervisor for the Rockaway Institute for a Sustainable Environment, Policy Intern for her local Assemblywoman, Mentor for the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge, Advocate with the Department of Environmental Conservation, and Researcher with the American Museum of Natural History. Andriana is passionate about microplastics and single-use plastics and has used her research and experience to educate the public on these issues.
