SUNY Student Assembly Elects Officers

Ally Chun, a sophomore at Binghamton University studying Politics, Philosophy and Law was elected as the President of the State University of New York (SUNY) Student Assembly on Saturday, April 30th at an in-person Conference in Albany of elected student delegates from SUNY's 64 campuses across New York State. President-elect Chun will serve as an ex-officio (voting) member of the SUNY Board of Trustees. Student Assembly delegates elected Officers for the Executive Board this past weekend include:
Michael Casey, a Junior from SUNY Plattsburgh studying Psychology, was elected Vice President. Jake Longuil, a graduate student from Stony Brook University studying Applied Mathematics and Statistics, was elected Treasurer. Tasnia Zzoha, a sophomore from Nassau Community College studying Liberal Arts, was elected Secretary. Terms for the officers will begin on June 1st, 2022.
The student leaders gathered for several days in Albany at the Empire State Plaza to convene and discuss important issues impacting students across the state. Resolutions passed by the Assembly included calling for mandatory mental health days, the inclusion of two students on the Chancellor Search Committee, and the annual budget proposal and advocacy agenda.
Immediately following the election, President-Elect Chun stated, “I am unbelievably grateful and so excited for this next chapter so we can get to work!”
Priorities for the upcoming academic year include strengthening mental health services on campus, enhancing support for disability services, promoting lifestyle classes curriculum changes, and enhancing funding for elected student leaders. The results of the election were announced at the Student Assembly's General Assembly meeting on Saturday April 30th in Albany at the Empire State Plaza.
